Information

Mishu Vass is a fine art photographer based in Romania.

Born as Maria-Mihaela Sârbu in 1978, she started photography in her early childhood years, in an attempt to add mood and visual content to her poems. Later, she studied French and Romanian Literature at "Babeş-Bolyai University" of Cluj-Napoca and then became Master in Comparative Literatures. She wrote poems, novels and short essays, and her exhaustive studies on existentialism and the culture as a mathematical phenomena have been published by prodigious publishing houses in her country.

Since, accordingly to her own statement, "it turned out that, eventually, words are never enough", Mishu Vass embraced once again the photography as a better way to express herself, starting the year of 2006. "As an advertising maker, I've been deeply disappointed about the ugly face of words, too often put in the service of emphasizing the so called virtues of consumerism, therefore I've decided that a good, non commercial image worth more that a thousand words and might have the function to redeem these words by bringing out their real, deep meanings, without actually write or pronounce them. Tired of what our society is making from the world we live in, I've chosen to manifest my disapproval through silent squares of neutral, unspoiled beauty, hoping that, somehow, these photographs will help people into regaining the consciousness of their own spiritual nature, the only genuine nature they have beyond all habits and needs the society constantly tries - and unfortunately succeeds - to force upon it."

Mishu Vass is an active member of Art Limited, Fotoblur, 500px and Photo.net communities, some of her photographs have been awarded in international photography contests such as Prix de la Photography Paris, IPA, Photography Masters Cup and The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards, and others are exhibited by photoART gallery in Cluj-Napoca and featured in exhibitions held at Bucharest and (following) Istanbul.
